  2. Hi Steven,
For the visa application I am required to provide the home address and telephone number of the host organization as well a contact person’s name and telephone number

    • Hi Amar, best is to request a visa support letter from your focal point. Unesco provided those a few weeks ago.
      Best regards

  3. Hello Steven,

We have been informed by the UNESCO organizer that there will be no visa facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, therefore applicants will have to travel to either India or Pakistan to apply for their visa but clearly if we travel to one of the above mentioned countries to get our visa it will take long time to stay in those countries and non of the supervisors will approve such long annual leave just to get a visa, thus we are kindly requesting you if you could help IOM AFGANISTAN for facilitating to apply in one of the embassies in Kabul for visa process.

    • Hi Shoiab,
I would recommend calling the Portuguese embassy in Islamabad and asking whether a different embassy in Kabul can issue a Shengen C-Visa on their behalf. Sometimes such agreements exist.
Please let us know how it goes.
      Best regards

  4. Dear Steven. I saw the place for swimming, Inatel, and book the family apartment 500m from it. But if the law tells to participate with package I will take a package, but my hotel room will be available for someone. Some colleague has checked and it’s 25 m pool? No problem we will practice turns.

  5. Greetings Steven et alia

I and a number of friends/colleagues (all staff members) have a concern which is impacting on our decision as to whether or not to attend. Why aren’t the hosts/organizers offering packages with and without accommodation? Staff members may have family or indeed homes in Lisbon. In addition, staff members have different budgets and tastes. One would expect that at least two packages could be offered, namely an all-inclusive rate (all events + accommodation) and a rate/package simply for attendance at all the sporting and gala dinner events, without accommodation. Also, with only two months to go to the Games, the continued absence of information regarding the host hotels is disconcerting.

    • Dear Eusibius,

Hotel information was published by UNESCO this morning and we published it on the website just know. Please note putting the participation package together is at the discretion of the host. Coordinating this many disciplines and people from this many locations is a difficult task. The priority in organizing the Games is always geared toward the competitions. Given the strict schedules of the venues as well as the match officials it is important for the organizers to know where all athletes are residing to coordinate transportation and logistics. Therefore a all-inclusive approach in a city the size of Lisbon is more manageable than having 1000 athletes scattered across everywhere.

I hope this clarifies somewhat and hope that you and your team will be able to plan successfully.

      best regards

    • Hi Ifeoma,

You will have to inquire with your IAG Focal Point for WFP. I have Camillo Guilavogui in my list to coordinate WFP.

Good luck and all the best

  11. Hi Steven,

Please can UNESCO advise on the cost of the hotel rooms for additional nights (prior and/or after the official dates). This would apply both to double or single rooms. In addition, kindly clarify if the additional nights would be paid directly to the hotel rather than included in the bank transfer to UNESCO.

  12. Bom dia meu nome e José sou do WFP/PMA Brazil.

  13. Steve,

I am having a number of question coming back on the accommodation.
    1. The registration cost of 530 EUR is per person and includes accommodation. For participants who are traveling with the spouse, will still be require to pay the same amount for each participant?
    2. What does it mean by double room or twin room? Is that share room?
    3. For example, if a UN staff takes his spouse, is he require to pay 530 x 2 when they will both be in the same room?

    Thanks.

    Reply
    • Hi,
Indeed, if you are taking a double room with your spouse you will have to pay 2×530€. Twin rooms generally have two beds in them, that’s the difference.

      • Steven,

And For those participant staff member who are from Portugal, are they still require to pay the 530 when they are taking care of their own accommodation?

If I pay 530, will I be require to share a room with someone else?

        • In that case no, however they will not be able to attend any of the official events including opening and closing ceremonies as well as some of the sports venues

It seems Squash is not represented this year. We will post full information on this website on Monday, your focal point should also already have received the invitation letter.

  14. Hi Steve,

Thanks for the clarification to my earlier question.

What I wanted to know, can a UN Staff Supporter invite a family member as a support as well or a family member can only be a support to a staff member participation in the competition?

    Reply
    • Indeed, supporters cannot compete in any of the sports events but merely support from the sidelines (or the Spa 🙂 ). However, supporters are not limited to immediate family, you can bring friends too. In-laws, for instance, are quite commonly registered. Please note though, that visa support is only given to UN staff registering for a sport.

  15. Hi Steven et all,

UN Uganda team is super excited to join this year’s UNIAG in Lisbon. Tickets already bought! As soon as the communication is sent to our coordinators, grateful if we can get some preliminary info posted here, especially on the venues – which Golf Course… accommodation as soon as it is available. It would sure save us few bucks the earlier we know. I am positive this is all in motion already. We are just super excited and looking forward to seeing you all in Lisbon over a good glass of Porto!

    Slainte!

  16. I need some confirmation and clarification. For family member attending the games, will the invitation letter also be extended to them for visa assistance?
How do we categorized family member, immediate or extended.

These are just some of the question being ask by participants.

    • Dear Lemuel,

Generally, you can include your family in the invitation letter. Please be reminded though that attendance to the Games is not considered official business and you will be applying for a Schengen-C Visa. The IAG Organizers (UNESCO) will provide you with a support letter confirming dates and location. All the details on your relations will have to be clarified on the visa application itself. More information will be available in the official invitation to the event which will be posted here as soon as we get it ourselves! It will also contain the info on who to contact for visa support.

See you in Portugal and best regards

      Steven
